As part of the implementation of grant agreement Project 101191832 — ECPP-2024-UA-EMT1, specialists from our institution and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine made a working trip to Portugal
The purpose of the visit was to study the experience of operating an EMT Type 1 Fixed team according to WHO classification.

The trip proved to be extremely productive. Meetings were held with Minister of Health Ana Paula Martins; President of the Portuguese Medical Association (Ordem dos Médicos) Carlos Cortes; President of the National Institute of Emergency Medical Care (INEM – Intituto Nacional de Emergência Médica) Sérgio Janeiro and the wonderful team at Portuguese Emergency Medical Team (PT EMT).

We presented our own experience of operating the EMS system in conditions of large-scale war and forming national disaster medicine teams. In turn, our colleagues from PT EMT shared their experience of obtaining international classification, forming the PT EMT team, logistics support, training, deployment in foreign missions during emergency response, and many other details.

This experience will undoubtedly help us better prepare for the pre-verification of the Ukrainian EMT this year and ultimately obtain international classification as EMT type 1 fixed and mobile.

A wonderful addition was the joint agreement to sign a memorandum in the near future and implement joint projects.
Special thanks to Dr. Victor Almeida, Coordinator of the Humanitarian Aid Office of the Portuguese Chamber of Physicians, for his constant support, as well as for coordinating and organizing our trip.
