Regular monitoring visits were carried out to the regional centers of EMC and DM in the southwestern region of Ukraine
Specialists of the State Institution “Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine” conducted regular monitoring visits to Chernivtsi, Khmelnytsky, Vinnytsia, Odesa and Mykolaiv regional centers for emergency medical care and disaster medicine

During the visits, the issues of organizing the operational readiness of the Centers to respond to emergencies with a large number of victims were considered. The following aspects were discussed and evaluated:
Functioning of disaster medicine teams, procedure and algorithms for their response to emergencies.
Coordination of actions of the EMC and MC with other services in an emergency situation.
Operation of all components of the facilities’ ACS, dispatching and routing of calls.
Reserves and resources for optimal operation of the emergency service in the regions.
Security aspects.

Considerable attention is also paid to the work of training departments of institutions regarding the specifics of training employees in training departments. Methods and approaches to staff training, as well as practical aspects of training and simulation activities were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the development and maintenance of the necessary rapid response skills for employees who have to act in extreme conditions, especially when dealing with the consequences of emergencies. Additional attention was paid to the training of emergency medical technicians.

During the discussions at each of the visits, the issues of financial support for the effective functioning of institutions and optimization of resources needed to improve emergency preparedness were discussed. The importance of rational use of funding to ensure prompt response was emphasized.
It was quite a hard, but at the same time productive week of work and communication with each of the heads of the Centers and their teams!
We thank everyone for the productive dialogues and information provided, which allowed us to assess in-depth the current challenges and opportunities for improving the emergency medical care and disaster medicine system in Ukraine.
