Our Center took part in the technical meeting on stroke control “Reducing the burden of stroke in Ukraine: improving the quality and outcomes of treatment”
On November 6, 2024, our Center joined a technical meeting organized by the WHO, which was dedicated to reducing stroke rates in Ukraine. At the event, experts from all over the country discussed important steps to improve the stroke care system and reduce morbidity, disability and mortality.
The key topics of the meeting included:
• analysis of progress in stroke care since the implementation of the Medical Guarantees Program (2021-2024);
• review of the results of monitoring of medical care for cerebral stroke in 2024;
• discussing ways to achieve the goals of the European Stroke Action Plan until 2030.
Emergency medical care plays an important role in the stroke care system. Clear dispatching, proper routing, and rapid transportation of patients to designated healthcare facilities have a significant impact on treatment effectiveness and subsequent recovery. Improving the quality and accessibility of these processes is an important step in reducing the burden of stroke.
During the event, the Center’s specialists presented their developments to assess the effectiveness of pre-hospital stroke care. This tool allows us to comprehensively analyze the effectiveness of each stage – from equipping teams and dispatching to patient routing and staff training. Thanks to this, we can respond to stroke cases faster and continuously improve the quality of care. Representatives of the Institution made a presentation on “Pre-hospital stroke care: how well is it currently provided in Ukraine?”, where they shared the results of implementing this approach and conclusions about its effectiveness.
The relevance of this issue is hard to overestimate, and such meetings are an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation and find new approaches to fighting stroke in Ukraine. We thank the organizers for providing a platform for experience exchange and joint planning.
