Last week, the Disaster Medicine team completed a large-scale deployment of a field hospital
A field hospital (DMT type 1 fixed) is an important part of the medical response to emergencies. We are preparing for the most difficult to act confidently!
The event was supported by the WHO, Samaritan’s Purse and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and covered several critical areas:
• Logistics of hospital placement and operation.
• Simulation scenarios with critical incidents.
• Interaction between teams and services.
During the exercise, we faced real challenges that required quick solutions. We are sincerely grateful to our international partners – experts from the World Health Organization Ukraine and Samaritan’s Purse shared examples from their experience of deploying hospitals in other countries. Their advice will help us improve our documentation and protocols.
What’s the point of all this?
Because in a crisis, it is often the DMT type 1 fixed that is the first and only chance for medical care. We must be ready to act in a coordinated manner where the infrastructure is destroyed and time is against life.
